As of April 30, 2025, there are no reports of a recent drug bust involving a customs officer and an ex-hockey player among 10 individuals arrested. However, here are some notable cases involving sports personalities and drug-related offenses:
- Ludhiana Opium Smuggling Case: In March 2025, a Punjab Police head constable, Gobind Singh, and his associate were convicted for attempting to smuggle opium to Canada by concealing it inside hockey sticks. They were sentenced to three years in prison and fined ₹10,000 each.
- Goa Drug Cartel Bust: In April 2023, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) dismantled an international drug cartel in Goa. Among those arrested were a 1980 Olympic silver medal-winning Russian swimmer and a former Russian police officer. The operation led to the seizure of various drugs, including LSD, cocaine, and hydroponic weed.
