Ranya Rao gold smuggling case.
News THE NEW INDIAN EXPRESS, THE TIMES OF INDIA, HINDUSTAN TIMES
As of April 26, 2025, there is no confirmed report that the Karnataka High Court has denied bail to actress Ranya Rao in the gold smuggling case. The most recent available information indicates that her bail plea was adjourned to March 19, 2025, with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) directed to file its objections before the next hearing.
Ranya Rao was arrested on March 3, 2025, at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport after authorities seized 14.2 kg of gold worth over ₹12.56 crore from her possession. Investigations revealed that she had traveled to Dubai 27 times since January 2025, raising suspicions about her involvement in an organized smuggling syndicate.
The DRI opposed her bail plea, citing her frequent travels to Dubai and the use of a Karnataka Police Protocol Officer to bypass security checks. They argued that granting her bail could hinder the ongoing investigation and potentially lead to evidence tampering or witness intimidation.
Ranya Rao, the stepdaughter of senior Karnataka IPS officer DGP K Ramachandra Rao, is currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail. Following her arrest, a raid at her residence led to the recovery of gold jewelry valued at ₹2.06 crore and cash amounting to ₹2.67 crore.
As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the Karnataka High Court’s decision on her bail plea. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to consult official court records or trusted news sources.
