In a significant development following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has demolished the houses of three individuals believed to be involved in the assault. The targeted properties belonged to Adil Hussain Thoker, Asif Sheikh, and Ahsan Sheikh, all suspected of being linked to the attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 people, primarily tourists.
The demolitions occurred overnight in the districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, and Shopian. Authorities employed controlled explosions to ensure the safety of neighboring structures. The operation was part of a broader crackdown on Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives and their associates in the region. Earlier, the homes of other suspects, including Shahid Ahmad Kuttay and Zakir Ahmad Ganie, were also destroyed in similar operations across Kulgam, Shopian, and Pulwama districts.
The demolitions are part of a larger strategy by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to deter local support for terrorism and to send a strong message to those considering joining militant ranks. Authorities have emphasized that such actions will continue against individuals found to be involved in terrorist activities.
The Pahalgam attack has not only led to a significant loss of life but has also strained relations between India and Pakistan. In response, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and closed its border with Pakistan, accusing Islamabad of supporting the militants allegedly linked to LeT. Pakistan denies any involvement and has retaliated with countermeasures, escalating tensions between the two nations.
