The Bombay High Court has recently ordered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to demolish an unauthorized community hall constructed on a plot in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, which was originally reserved for a playground. The court criticized the BMC for its prolonged inaction since 2021, despite multiple complaints from citizens. The structure, built by the Akhil Bhatwadi Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal, was found to be in violation of town planning policies. The court directed the demolition to be completed within two weeks and mandated disciplinary action against the negligent officials involved.
This decision underscores the court’s commitment to preserving public spaces and holding authorities accountable for neglecting their duties.
