As of April 17, 2025, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has implemented new guidelines to expedite the resolution of complaints filed by homebuyers suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Under these revised rules, such complaints will be prioritized regardless of their filing date, provided the complainant submits a valid doctor’s certificate confirming their condition.
This move aims to address the urgent needs of terminally ill homebuyers, ensuring they receive timely hearings. Consumer advocates have praised the decision, noting that it balances humanitarian concerns with administrative efficiency.
Additionally, MahaRERA’s internal circular, issued on April 8, 2025, states that complaints will generally be heard in the order they are received. However, exceptions will be made for cases involving life-threatening illnesses, which will be expedited upon submission of the necessary medical documentation.
