Waqf Amendment Act 2025.
News HINDUSTAN TIMES, REUTER, LIVE LAW . IN
As of April 15, 2025, there is no confirmed news indicating that six states have approached the Supreme Court in support of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. On the contrary, several states and political parties have challenged the Act’s validity in the Supreme Court.
The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which came into force on April 8, 2025, introduces significant changes to the management of waqf properties, including the inclusion of non-Muslim members in waqf boards and increased government oversight. While the government asserts that these changes aim to enhance transparency and inclusivity, critics argue that the Act infringes upon the rights of the Muslim community and undermines religious autonomy.
Multiple petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Act, including those by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi, and organizations like the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.
Given the ongoing legal challenges and the absence of reports confirming support from six states, it is advisable to refer to official court records or credible news sources for the most accurate and up-to-date information on this matter.
