A Special CBI Court has summoned Hindalco Industries and two of its top executives to appear on May 6, 2025, in connection with alleged irregularities in coal block allocations. This development follows the court’s review of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) final report, which indicated sufficient grounds to proceed with the case.
The case pertains to the allocation of the Talabira II coal block in Odisha, a matter under scrutiny for over a decade. The CBI’s investigation has focused on potential misconduct by Hindalco and certain government officials during the allocation process. The court’s decision to issue summons suggests that it found prima facie evidence warranting further legal proceedings.
This case is part of a broader investigation into coal block allocations between 1993 and 2010, during which the Supreme Court deemed over 200 allocations illegal due to arbitrary and unfair distribution practices.
The upcoming court appearance on May 6 will be crucial in determining the subsequent legal trajectory for Hindalco and the involved executives.
