Mallya bankruptcy order 2025.

On April 9, 2025, the London High Court dismissed Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya’s appeal against a bankruptcy order related to debts exceeding £1 billion owed to a consortium of banks, including the State Bank of India. The bankruptcy order, originally issued in 2021, stemmed from a 2017 Indian court judgment recognized in the UK. Mallya contended that the banks had substantially recovered the debt through asset seizures; however, Judge Anthony Mann upheld the bankruptcy order, rejecting Mallya’s arguments.

In addition to the bankruptcy proceedings, Mallya is contesting extradition to India, where he faces fraud charges linked to the collapse of Kingfisher Airlines in 2012. Although his last appeal against extradition was rejected in 2020, the order remains unenforced as Mallya continues to resist it on other grounds.
