On April 8, 2025, the Supreme Court of India highlighted the urgent need for enhanced sensitization to combat crimes against women, particularly rape. During the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by senior advocate Aabad Ponda, the bench comprising Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma emphasized that women’s vulnerability is often beyond men’s comprehension. They stressed that sensitization efforts should extend beyond educational institutions to include uneducated individuals and marginalized communities. Justice Nagarathna remarked, “Leave the women alone in this country; let them grow,” urging authorities to broaden awareness initiatives.

The Court also acknowledged the daily risks faced by women in both urban and rural settings, underscoring the necessity for comprehensive awareness and prevention measures. The bench granted the Union of India a final three-week extension to file a comprehensive affidavit outlining current modules and proposed actions to address gender-based violence.

This development reflects the judiciary’s proactive stance in advocating for systemic changes to ensure women’s safety and empowerment across the nation.​
