Mumbai medical student suicide case.

As of April 8, 2025, there are no new reports regarding the Bombay High Court hearing a plea from Dr. Ching Ling Yi, the former head of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department at Topiwala National Medical College and BYL Nair Charitable Hospital, in connection with the Dr. Payal Tadvi suicide case.

The most recent development occurred on March 20, 2025, when Dr. Ching approached the Bombay High Court to challenge a special trial court’s February 28 order that added her as an accused in the case. In her petition, Dr. Ching contended that there was insufficient evidence to include her as an accused and that the prosecution’s move was untimely, given that the investigation had been completed and the trial was underway.

Previously, on February 28, 2025, the special court had directed that Dr. Ching be added as an accused, citing her alleged failure to act on multiple complaints of harassment from Dr. Tadvi and her family. The court noted that this inaction may have facilitated the continued harassment that led to Dr. Tadvi’s suicide in May 2019.

As of now, there have been no further updates on the proceedings or outcomes related to Dr. Ching’s plea in the Bombay High Court.
