Tada court: hand over to centre 14 properties of tiger mencon, kin attached in 94

In August 2024, a special TADA court in Mumbai ordered the transfer of three flats belonging to Tiger Memon’s family in the Al Hussain building in Mahim to the central government. These flats were attached in 1994 following the 1993 Bombay serial blasts, in which Tiger Memon is alleged to have played a central role.

The flats had been under the Bombay High Court’s receiver since their attachment. The housing society managing the building sought permission to recover ₹41 lakh in maintenance arrears and to undertake redevelopment or repairs due to the building’s deteriorating condition. However, the court directed the society to approach the competent authority, stating that, given the forfeiture order, the central government is the owner of the disputed properties.

Tiger Memon’s family has a significant history with the Al Hussain building. All six Memon brothers lived there at different times. Their mother, Hanifa Memon, owned one of the flats but was acquitted in the case and has since passed away. Tiger’s wife, Shabana, and his sister-in-law, Rubina, who is serving a life sentence, also owned flats in the building.

This development underscores the legal proceedings surrounding assets linked to individuals accused or convicted in significant criminal cases.
