New Delhi, April 7, 2025:
The Supreme Court of India and the Supreme Court of Nepal have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen judicial cooperation between the two countries. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Chief Justice of Nepal, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Chief Justice of India.
Purpose of the MoU
The agreement is inspired by the longstanding cordial and friendly relations between India and Nepal. The MoU aims to:
- Promote mutual exchange of information on latest legal and judicial developments.
- Facilitate interaction among judges and officials of both judiciaries through exchange visits, training, and academic programmes.
- Encourage collaboration in the use of technology to clear case backlogs, expedite court procedures, and improve access to justice for stakeholders.
Joint Working Group
As part of the agreement, a Joint Working Group comprising officials from both judiciaries will be established. This group will design plans and modalities to further enhance cooperation in the judicial field.
Broader Judicial Partnerships
The Supreme Court of India has earlier signed similar agreements for judicial cooperation with several countries and institutions, including:
- Supreme Court of Israel
- Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore

- Supreme Court of Bhutan
- Government of Tunisia
