Today, May 5, 2025, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Delhi Police, seeking their response to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain’s regular bail plea in connection with the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, presiding over the matter, directed the police to file a status report. The case is scheduled for further hearing in July.

Tahir Hussain has been in judicial custody since March 2020, facing charges related to the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma. While he has been granted bail in several other riot-related cases, his bail plea in this particular case was previously denied by a trial court in December 2024. The trial court cited insufficient changes in circumstances as the reason for the denial.

The Delhi High Court’s decision to issue a notice on Hussain’s bail plea indicates that the matter is being actively considered, and the forthcoming hearing in July will provide an opportunity for both parties to present their arguments.
