Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received three bids for its massive ₹2,368 crore tender to bioremediate the legacy waste at Deonar dumping ground. Here’s what we know:

• The tender involves the bioremediation of 185 lakh tonnes of accumulated waste and reclaiming 110 hectares of land at one of Mumbai’s oldest dumps. The clean-up will take approximately three years, including time during the monsoon.
• In a pre-bid meeting, 21 firms expressed interest, but due to the scale and technical demands, only three submitted formal bids.
• The BMC floated the tender on May 14, and it faced multiple deadline extensions (from June 3 to July 4) to accommodate bidder queries around logistical feasibility, environmental clearances, price escalation mechanisms, and reserved land parcels.
• Names of the bidding firms haven’t been disclosed yet. The bids are to be opened next week (now expected July 8), after which the lowest-qualified bidder will be awarded the contract.
